I’m the crazy laundry lady

It’s true. I’m the crazy laundry lady. Well for today, anyway.

After cooking dinner yesterday (meatloaf and mashed potatoes) and lunch today (pork cops and rice pilaf), I went to the laundromat to do some laundry.

The thing is, I was washing my bras, so I had none to wear. So I didn’t. And I wore my Caturday shirt*. And some hot pink, wedgie-inducing leggings. And I was grumpy.

I was, without a doubt, the weirdest person at the laundromat. And that’s saying something.

But I acted cool. I pretended I wasn’t wearing a shirt festooned with felines. I even drank my can of Dr. Pepper with my pinky extended, just like one of them fancy people.

I did not talk to people at the laundromat. Except to ask for change for a $20. And when that blonde lady was in my way, I looked at her pointedly and said “Excuse Me.” With a bit of attitude, mind.

No worries tho. I’m back home and thus no longer a crazy laundry lady. Edmund and I are leaving soon to go see a movie, and I’ve changed into some more comfortable sweats, and although I still will wear my Caturday shirt (sans undergarment) I’ll wear a sweatshirt over it (it gets cold in them there movie theatres.)

Crazy Cat Lady: yes. Crazy Laundry Lady No More!

*It’s Caturday:

I have mashed potatoes in my hair

Another successful foray into culinary delight! Tonight I made some meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Enough for dinner and for 12 lunches. MMMmmm.

Aftermath: I have mashed potatoes in my hair.

I still need to do some dishes.

I leave you to your Saturday night shenanigans.

Bad Movies are awesome

Bad movies are awesome because you don’t have to pay close attention to them to know what is going on.

Bad movies are awesome because only in a sucky film can you see such luminaries like Diane Ladd give birth to a Carnosaur [well, if you want to split hairs, one could argue that she gave herself a cesarean since she ripped her abdomen open to let said Carnosaur out.]

Bad movies are awesome because you are likely to see Clint Howard show up in them. And then his head gets eaten by a Carnosaur.

Hey it’s Thursday. Time for a podcast, people!

Hey it’s Thursday. Time for a podcast, people!

George Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

George Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Welp. Part 1 of my podcast funtimes with Comedian George Hamm was posted today. So. You should go listen to it. Right now.

And the best part is – there’s a part 2! It’ll post next Thursday.

Also, you should listen to it because my Mom loved it! [She hasn’t listened to any of the other podcasts yet, but since she knows George, she listened to this one, and the episode gets Dottie’s seal of approval.

But don’t take our word for it, how about a word from George:

Never seen George Perform? Here you go:

Write

Write

I’m just gonna write. I don’t need no stinking ideas. Planning is for sissies. I can totally wing out a stellar and erudite piece of literary genius in just a few moments.

Wait for it…

Here I am, writing awesome across the page; typing it really, it’s like my fingers are a conduit of excitation and delight as they dance across the keyboard, tap tap tapping my way into your heart. My eyes flit around the room, not in a desperate bid for something to write about, but because I don’t NEED to concentrate on what I’m writing, the writing just HAPPENS and its stunning brilliance stands alongside the literary greats of the world, the likes of which I can’t even list here.

I must pause for sustenance, and for that I am fueled with fluffernutters and cheddar cheese popcorn – the food of the Gods. For drink I mainline coffee. Or Coca-Cola.

I am not thinking.

As I write more, my eyes are drawn to the television. Danny Trejo (of Machete fame) is acting in a small role in the movie Anaconda. Who knew?

Owen Wilson was in Anaconda too! Crazytalk.

I am on point. Writing awesome.

Really.

What’s that behind you?

I love it when a plan comes together!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Ready to podTonight I spent a fantastic couple of hours with a dear friend recording the next two episodes of Lounging with LannaLee. Without exception, this has been my favorite part of doing this crazy project: an excuse to connect with old and new friends with a purpose to entertain and have fun.

And I wondered, have you (my dear blag readers) been listening to the Lounging with LannaLee podcasts? If so, I have some questions:

  • What has been your favorite part/episode?
  • What has worked for you?
  • What could be fixed?

If not, why haven’t you listened yet?

I am getting serious about finding ways to build my podcast audience. So if you have any insight, please bring it. I’m working on my plan, and can use all the help I can get!

Because I wanted to make sure you guys where in the loop, here is what I posted on Lounging with LannaLee today:

Comedian George Hamm is well known to Maine audiences as a frequent visitor to Portland’s Comedy Connection. A local comic headliner, Hamm has opened for the bands Cheap Trick, Tower of Power and blues legend Leon Redbone and for comedians Jay Mohr, Robert Schimmel, Bob Marley, Kevin Nealon, Anthony Clark and Harland Williams.

And the best part is, we had such a great time, we did two shows at once, so he’ll be back next week!

Tune back in on Thursday for Part 1 with George Hamm! Or subscribe on iTunes to have it magically download into your iTunes account!

Better Late than Never

Better Late than Never

Those of you who are keeping score might notice that this blag post is appearing after midnight, in spite of the date and time stamp above. Well, better late than never, I say.

This time I have the most excellent of excuses. My pal Carrie Barraco is in town (you might remember her from her Lounging with LannaLee episode) she lives in New York so it was a big deal. I meet her to chat, and then we meet Edmund for a late dinner. And then we all go back to her hotel room to chat some more. And before I knew it, it was almost midnight and Carrie was kicking me out of her room because she needed some sleep!

Carrie Lounged with LannaLee and she got a couch!

Carrie Lounged with LannaLee and she got a couch!

What an unexpected pleasure. Carrie is awesome and it was great to meet with her, as she said “without scheduled activities” – just to hang out. I’m looking forward to more hanging out in the future.

And if you haven’t already, take a listen to Carrie’s Lounging with LannaLee episode. It’s a great time!

But don’t take my word for it:

Easter Egg Story

In which I tell an Easter Egg story:

You’re Welcome.

Happy Easter!

Lounging with LannaLee Update

Here’s a bit of a Lounging with LannaLee Update and how Lounging is helping me out by giving me something fun and positive to do. So I won’t be moping. And stuff.

And I talk about my guest policy in that, why I don’t always tell you who’s on deck for a show.

And then I get a bit grandiose. As I do.

Any suggestions?

[It ain’t good. But I’m like the Honey Badger. I don’t care!]

In which I talk about my Dad. In video. In color.

Tears may have been shed.

I tell you how I’m doing and give you some advice. And make jokes.

Catharsis on Social Media FTW!

And whatnot.

Amanda Lounged with LannaLee and she got a couch!

Last weekend, after a night of fun and mojitos, my pal Amanda lounged with me for a while. And I recorded it and posted it today. And now I share it with you.

Isn’t that special?

Hey. Why don’t you just go on over and listen to it. You’ll be glad you did.

Don’t take my word for it. Here’s what Amanda has to say.

C’mon. Just one little click?

Sneaker Decisions

Sneaker Decisions

A couple of years ago my car was broken into and some miscreant stole my gym clothes, along with my sneakers. No worries, I had just ordered a new pair of sneakers from Zappos.

Wouldn’t you know it, the wide-sized sneakers I bought from Zappos didn’t fit. And I never got around to sending them back. I was just too busy with school and work and then it seemed like it was too late.

So that means that I’ve been paying for a gym membership but not going to the gym in part because I don’t have anything to wear on my feet. So. That happened.

I resolved to buy myself some sneakers. I would schlep myself to the store and try on sneakers before I purchased them to make sure they would fit well. This week. When I told Edmund of my plans [“I’m going to go on Tuesday night after Mom and I go out to dinner”] he gave me a 10% discount coupon to a sports store in the mall. Kismet!

My new sneakersImagine my dismay when I realized that the only (and I mean only) pair of wide sneakers that fit me was one of the “pink” shoes benefiting a charity that will remain nameless. In spite of my love of Planned Parenthood and all the good it does for Women’s Health and cancer screening, I chose to buy the damn sneakers.

You should be able to infer why.

I suppose if I were a better person and stood up for my beliefs and stuff I’d boycott those damn sneakers!

And there I would be, exactly where I was before. Without sneakers. Paying for a gym membership but never going because of sneakers. Sneakers. Sneakers. SNEAKERS!

I bought them. Because I don’t live in vacuum. If I had smaller/less wide feet, I would’ve had plenty of options. But I don’t.

And clearly, I needed to buy the damn sneakers when I was ready to buy sneakers.

So there.

I don’t know

I don’t know what to write. I don’t know. I just don’t know.

Tonight Mom and I went out to dinner to celebrate the sale of her house in Westbrook. Hallelujah. She and Dad have talked about selling that house for three or four years now. And it’s done. And Dad’s not here to see it. He’s the one who put the whole sale into action when he went into the hospital. So I’m sure he’s up there in heaven, smiling down on Mom.

I’m a little depressed. I cry every day; several times a day. Little short jags. But I’m okay. It’s weird.

I’m cheerfully depressed. I miss Dad so much. Last Friday on my way to the car in the morning I thought, “It’s Friday, I get to see Dad tonight.” And then I realized I wouldn’t. But I can laugh and joke about it. And have fun, even if sometimes I descend into the melancholy.

I suppose I’m doing so well because Dad had no regrets. None. We got a chance to say good-bye. He passed on so gently; his was a good death.

While I am grieving along with my family, I’m trying to honor my father by getting on with it. Life. Living it and such.

It’s effing hard sometimes.

Discarded Headlines

Discarded Headlines

Discarded HeadlinesSometimes I get a “great” headline or title for a blagpost but it just doesn’t pan out.

Today I thought that I did not live-tweet from my father’s deathbed would be funny or poignant. But then the funny did not come. Nor did poignancy.

A few weeks ago I was looking for the The Silver Lining – did not find it; post was about my Dad.

Visions of Grandeur was about Lounging with LannaLee and how awesome it was going to be.

Nanu-Nanu is where I was gearing myself up to talk about my love for Mork and Mindy, and I kind of petered out. I wanted to talk about how I wanted to BE Mork and how I wanted to BE Bugs Bunny:

Me circa 1981

Nanu-Nanu

Yesterday I talked about my illustrious film career. Then some twitter pals (@blackgirlinmain and @lisa04040 (among others) were talking about shows we liked as kids. Since we three grew up in the 1970s/1980s, we liked similar shows. I brought up Mork and Mindy. Lisa brought up Looney Tunes. and I…

Before that I wanted to talk about The LannaLee Brand. And then I got over myself.

In testing I was literally testing the html code for ordered lists.

My Strategy was to talk about my love of computer strategy games:

Strategy

I like to play strategy games, like Starcraft I/II and Warcraft III (not to be confused with World of Warcraft, which is a totally different animal). I am not saying I’m good at playing strategy games. I like to play them.

I play strategy games like I plan out my school semester. I like to stack the decks in my favor. When I play Warcraft III or Starcraft, which are real-time strategy games, I make it a priority to gather as many resources together as I can,…

Not sure what Write Like the Wind was about, probably going to pump myself up about something or other.

Now I’ve made some discarded headlines useful again. Go me!

I say sexy things to myself when I’m dancing

I say sexy things to myself when I’m dancing

Squiggy and Lenny strike a poseTonight someone from our church called to talk to me about Dad’s passing. And I didn’t wanna talk. Not to someone who didn’t know him. [Also, I wasn’t crying and I didn’t want to cry.]

It’s weird. I don’t mind talking to people about Dad. I don’t mind bringing up stories about him. But that’s only to people who know me fairly well.

That said, I’m glad I got the call. It’s nice that if I needed to talk to someone, I could.

At girls night, this song came up:

[I say sexy things to myself when I’m dancing.]

The song and video were made by Steve Ibsen, who also created the following video. Good for a laugh if you need it. 😉

[I’ll dance for you. If you’ll give me a quarter.]

That is all.
