Central Park

We (my friend Karen and I) got up late today. And it took us so long to get out of the house, we found ourselves eating our first meal at 4pm. At a diner. Then we spent some time meandering thru Central Park and taking a bus back to Queens. We then shared a pizza, now it’s time for bed.

Another good day.

Birthday Queen

I sleep in Queens tonight.

Today was good, almost 7 hours of bus travel, plus a 4 hour layover. Now chilling with my pal Karen.

A good Birthday.

Import This

Importing a huge mailing list for work, waiting for it to finish so I can send a mailing and then reboot my computer.

Getting ready to be out of the office for the beginning of next week (for my NYC trip), including getting my work-stuff ready.

Have some ideas of things I want to write about, but I don’t have the energy to do so. I think it’s sleep deprivation. Due to my meds? Or due to my not going to bed early enough.

Whatever.

I had a nice lunch out with my co-worker Donna. I did not get Mac and Cheese because I was worried about how it would impact my digestive system.

Changing subject AWAY from TMI territory…

Tonight I have to finish getting ready to go to New York: pack my clothes, count out more pens, organize and pack my toiletries, pack my podcast equipment, AND hug my hubby super tight.

I could call this post a collection of ideas.

I want to take a nap.

Imodium is my friend.

That is all.

NYC Here I Come! #140You #140Conf

Something I am very excited about: a few weeks ago I was invited to attend a State of Now conference, #140You Exploring the State of: Health, Wellness, Fitness and Food in New York City on June 18th and 19th.

As you know, Edmund and I have been a little poor lately. So I contacted my friend Karen, who I haven’t seen since we moved from NYC in 2005, and asked if she would be able to put me up. And she would! And then I bought a round trip bus ticket (Portland to Boston, Boston to NYC, NYC to Boston, Boston to Portland) from Megabus for $20 (well, $19.50 to be exact).

Kismet!

Note: I haven’t visited NYC SINCE we moved in January of 2005. It’s weird, but true. I’ve driven through on our way to/from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, once or twice I’ve been at one of the airports, but as far as walking around in New York City – not so much.

My thoughts on this: I am SO out of shape.

Not looking forward to climbing up tons of stairs and whatnot, but so be it. This trip will be a mini-boot camp I suppose. Funny that I’m going to this health and wellness conference.

And that’s another thing. It is a health and wellness conference, and I am ambivalent about health and wellness (especially as its presented in mainstream society, and this looks to be a fairly mainstream event.) My plan is to attend with an open heart and mind, maybe I’ll learn something. Get inspired and whatnot.

I’m leaving on Saturday, so I can hang out with Karen for a couple of days, working remotely on Monday and then the conference is on Tuesday and Wednesday. I have tons of pens, just got a new order in for another 500, so hope to be able to do lots of outreach for Lounging with LannaLee, grab myself some new listeners! That would be nice.

Slog

The blag is a slog right now.

{And I remark that if I called my blag a blog the sentence above would rhyme. But this is a blag, not a blog.}

Anywhoo. It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means, I’m getting the podcast ready. It’s a good one.

I’d say I’d write a long post for tomorrow, but I’m not going to make any promises I can’t keep.

47 Years

47 Years

47 Years ago today my parents, Walter Marshall Maheux and Dottie May Melia, tied the knot, becoming Walter and Dottie (or Dottie and Walter depending on who you talk to).

Last year, as most of you know, my Dad passed away, after 45 (almost 46) years of marriage. Let’s call it 46. We all hoped for many more years, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Today my thoughts are with my Mom, who is doing well, keeping busy, and remembering that Dad would want her to be happy.

Top Shot

Is a truly awesome show. Any previous griping about said show was ill advised. I love this show. Dudes shooting guns, with precision.

Most of the contestants are gun geeks, and watching their reactions when the outlandish challenges are announced is delightful.

So that is what I did tonight. Watched Top Shot with my hubby.

God Hates a Coward

If you are new to this blag, you might not know about one of my Dad’s favorite sayings, “God Hates a Coward.” Here I talk about it in my post Pep Talk, which was written over three months before he died.

Well, today I wrote that email I was scared to write, and you know what? I feel better.

I copped to my fear in the email because I figured it was best to be totally honest. [It is possible the recipient of the email will read this post. Hello!]

I am not going to tell you more about the email, per se, except to say it was only a positive thing, I just got a little insecure and stuff. [I was volunteering to do something that would bring me to the next level or something like that, so all good.] And I’ve been ANGSTING over writing it for two weeks.

TWO WEEKS, people.

So I said to myself: God Hates a Coward. And I wrote the shit out of that email.

{I was very polite. I just can’t resist a colorful turn of phrase now and again.}

No Deepness from Me today

Today is my day to sleep in. I love sleeping in. And I was rudely woken by the start of a road race, right outside our bedroom window. [Sure, the race started at 9 am, but when I say Sleep IN, I am NOT kidding, I was looking to snooze until after 10 am, maybe 11 am.]

It was the air horn that ultimately woke me.

And the clapping and cheering that kept me awake.

But I’m not bitter. Just remember that.

I think the new meds are sitting better with me, which is a boon.

Anyway, Edmund and I took a power nap this afternoon, joined by our kitties. Then we watched a few episodes of Top Shot.

I am currently reading through Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child’s Pendergast books (again). I just finished Cabinet of Curiosities, now reading Still Life with Crows. There are 12 books out in the series (of which I have read/own 11), the 13th will be out this November. Fun suspenseful with a little uncanny. Great stuff.

And now it’s time to make more iced tea, and for sleep. Tomorrow will be for doing things. I might even venture out side. (news at 11)

Friday Night and Top Shot

Edmund and I spent the evening watching Top Shot.

I got really sucked into the show, I can’t, in all fairness, blame him for my watching it any more. We were yelling at the tv, and cheering the contestants on.

And now it’s time to go to sleep (I am falling asleep right now, even.)

Sorry this post is so lame.

Night, people.

Lovely

I met my pal ida for dinner tonight. This is momentous because ida does not live in Maine, she’s just visiting/on Vacation. We met at the Dunstan School Buffet restaurant in Scarborough and we stayed until closing time.

It was lovely.

Now I am at home, internetting, as you do, and missing Edmund. But he’s off having fun adventures of his own (playing pinball).

I am also procrastinating, but that’s a way of life about now.

I have a new drug. Will be starting it tonight, as soon as I get some beverage.

I should get some beverage.

I got some beverage and took my pills. Go me.

Which is making me think, if you’ve been following along, you should know that I quit drinking Coca Cola every day a few months ago. (Well, I wasn’t drinking Coke at home, but I was drinking a lot at work.) And when I just got my beverage, I grabbed some of my home-made iced tea (I also quit drinking Arizona iced tea, which was what I was drinking at home). And that seems to be working out for me. Except that sometimes it’s a pain in the ass to remember to make (it’s easy to make, but I’ve got to boil water twice and wait for it to cool off before I pour it in the bottle and store it in the fridge.) Right now I try to keep two full bottles of tea in the fridge, and I am almost out of one of them. But instead of making tea, I am internetting, as you do.

I have noticed that when I do drink soda (I still have soda when I go out to eat sometimes) I drink less of it than I used to. Tonight I had one-and-a-half Mountain Dews. I might have drank many more if I was still on the juice. Earlier this week I went out to eat and I got iced tea instead (the add-your-own-sugar kind). I don’t really miss the Coke. This is huge for me.

HUGE.

It’s a slippery slope, tho. I know that I could just as easily slip back into drinking Coke more often. So I will maintain the same “rules” I’ve had over the past few months: no Coke at home, none at work, it’s okay in a restaurant for a treat – but try not to do it more than once a day. When traveling this might become difficult, but I’m just going to let that shit go.

Like this post. It is done.

Thinking my Thinky Thoughts

Sigh.

Multi-tasking too. Listening to old podcasts trying to put something together for the lounge. Another clip show!

I am sucking at doing the lounge lately. I should give myself a bit of a pass, my life has been very stressful past few months. But I still need to get a show together.

Sleepy.

And yes, I got stuck watching TV with Edmund for a while tonight. That Top Shot is too interesting.

And now I’ve figured out what I’m going to do for the show and done lots of other things. And I am procrastinating doing something else because I feel insecure.

Ugh.

Let’s do some positives:

  • Tomorrow I will be starting a new anti-depressant, hopefully one that doesn’t mess up my gastrointestinal system like the one I am currently using
  • I am going to NYC in a couple of weeks
  • The kitties are gorgeous
  • Eddie is sweet
  • I am probably good enough, smart enough, and I’m pretty sure people like me!

Well, that’s good for now! I don’t want to go overboard.

I Blame Edmund

I worked late and came home and sat in front of the television and didn’t do the things I wanted to do. Instead I watched a couple of episodes of Top Shot and part of a Diners Drive-ins and Dives episode.

For that I blame Edmund.

You see, he was the one who was watching tv, I got sucked in.

Sure. Supposedly I should be responsible for my OWN actions. Just because Edmund was watching TV didn’t mean I HAD to watch it with him. For instance, I could’ve just went straight into my office.

But I was entranced by Colby Donaldson’s shining white teeth and the promise of watching someone fire their last shot. (And then there was the Bass Pro shop gift card for the person in the elimination round who didn’t get eliminated.)

And BIG GUNS! Shot mostly by dudes!

Funny. Not a lot of the dudes were particularly handsome, but a few were attractive. You know what I mean? And the one that was gorgeous just seemed like an ass, which is a major turn-off. If only he didn’t open his freaking mouth.

There were GUNS!

That is all.

Must Listen Internet: Idamae Peacock on Lounging with LannaLee

Must Listen Internet: Idamae Peacock on Lounging with LannaLee

Ida lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Ida lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Last week I came back with a proper lounge featuring artiste extrodinaire Idamae Peacock (also known as ida mishaan), and it is, without a doubt, one of my best lounges.

Really.

You should listen to it, for reals.

Here is the description and Ida’s bio, just to whet your appetite:

Join Ida and Lanna at the festival Rites of Spring where they have a raucous conversation about paganism, spirituality, walking your walk, living in community, volunteering, service, and unconditional love. Ida confesses she has the voice of a drag queen, and explains how she combated body-loathing badness. Lanna laughs uncontrollably. Ida talks deep about tattoos and shepherding someone to the other side. And she answers 10 questions.

Idamae Peacock/ida mishaan is…

middle aged and unashamed of her youthful forays into unlistenable music, unfathomable make up, and ridiculously high hair. now a twenty year veteran of tattooing in all it’s majesty and ridiculousness. dalliances that involve exotic spices, rubbing diverse meats, and laughing until her sides hurt, are what fills her soul. advocate for the earnest and hopeful, champion of the willing. now armed with magnum sized sharpie, glitter, and silver tongue…

I am so chuffed that I was able to lounge with Ida. (She is one of those people who was always on my LIST, and once you hear it, you’ll know why.)

Go on. LISTEN!

Hermitage

Been mostly a hermit this weekend (our trip to the laundromat aside) and I have read a lot and slept a lot and have not done anything else that was very productive (other than laundry. Let’t not forget the laundry.)

I have a million I should’ve dones but I am going to chalk this up to a true re-charge weekend, and get myself to bed early-ish so I can start the week running. (Figuratively, of course, I don’t see myself actually running unless something is chasing me, and still then I might stop and make a stand, brandishing whatever I have on hand as a weapon.)

And here I am doing a dramatic reading of Edmund’s Google Voice messages transcribed by Google.

You’re welcome.
