Reverend Lanna Lee

Reverend Lanna Lee

Did you know I was a Reverend? I am.

No worries if you didn’t know, even though I’ve been a Reverend since 2004, I kinda forgot.

But then the Voters in Maine passed the Yes on 1 initiative legalizing Gay Marriage and local branding and design firm Might & Main set up this website for those who would marry ALL those who wish to marry in the State of Maine.

I remembered: I’m a Reverend! Through some email investigation I found out when I applied (August, 2004), and I contacted the Universal Life Church to confirm. They are sending my updated certificate via mail as we speak.

So. Here is the deal. I am legal to perform wedding ceremonies in the Great State of Maine. I am on the side of love and would love to officiate a wonderful wedding ceremony for any loving couple, no matter the orientation or gender or whatnot. Did I say I “would love”? I’d be STOKED to marry any loving couple.

I might even do a little dance.

My poetry pal John Hill Rogers and I had a great conversation a couple of weeks ago, and I shared it on my most recent episode of Lounging with LannaLee.

We met at the Stonecoast Writers’ Conference in 2006 for poetry where we sat next to each other. Over the years we’ve kept in touch, helped greatly by Facebook, no doubt. His life is much different now than it was then. (Listen to the episode to see what I mean.) Mine is too. But our rapport is still there.

So please, take a listen. Like most Lounging with LannaLee episodes, you might learn something; you’ll definitely be entertained.

Heart Break

This tweet broke my heart:

It’s written by my dear husband, Eddie. When I was away in Kansas last week, he went to visit his father in Pennsylvania. If you don’t remember, this August Henry had a recurrence of the brain cancer he had in 2008. Six (or so) months after my Dad died from lung cancer.

Henry had surgery to remove the new tumors, which was successful; however, he is now paralyzed on the left side. He cannot sit up without help. He is currently in a assisted nursing home, which includes some rehab.

It’s tough to be so far away. Edmund made the trip so he could see how his Dad was doing. And, as his tweet indicates, Henry is not the man he once was.

When Dad was dying, Mom would say she didn’t want to “lose him before I lose him.” If you were following us then, you know that we did, kinda.

Here we go on this roller coaster again.

My heart breaks for Edmund and his Mom and sister and brother-in-law. I know, in part, what they are going through.

It sucks that I can’t be there for Edmund the way I should be. I’m trying. I’m still grieving for my father. But when I see how Ed is really feeling, I know what he is talking about, and I just don’t know what to do.

Breathe.

It’s just another glorious day in suck city.

Back to Normal?

Well, I’m back from my trip. I had work today and I haven’t even taken a nap yet (winning!) Guess things are back to normal.

Working at my actual computer tonight. Very sleepy though. I could take a nap right now.

On my mind:

Lounging with LannaLee (natch).

And sleep is on my mind too.

Glorious sleep.

I like sleeping.

Anyway.

Nap Champ

Yesterday I napped across half of the United States. Today I napped the day away. Tomorrow it’s back to work and back to sub-normal.

Normal. I mean normal.

Now to try to go to sleep.

Home Again

I made it home!

Good (albeit long) travel day.

Want some sleep.

Nighty night.

So Sleepy

Staying in the same hotel I stayed in Monday night. Except tonight it’s noisier and smellier. Yay.

Should’ve gone to get some antacid. But I took my bra off already, and my socks. And my shirt. And I bolted the door. So I’m staying in.

My flights look like they are leaving on time tomorrow. I’ll be glad to be home. I miss Eddie a whole bunch.

Got to repack/redistribute my stuff. That’ll be fun. Should do it now so I can get some sleep.

All my luggage is on my bed right now. Hard to sleep if luggage is in the say.

And I’m so sleepy.

I Drank Beer

I Drank Beer

Beer Table View

Beer Table View

I went out to dinner with some fellow early SmallTown2012 #140Conf attendees and some local social media peeps. And I had this ginormous beer. And water. I did not have soda.

However.

I did have half a Coca-Cola on the plane* last night. And a Dr. Pepper today*. But tonight I felt like beer. So I got one.

I don’t drink alcohol very often. But I wasn’t driving and I had a hankering, so I went for it. And I went for the big one too. Because. Well, I do it right! That said, I did not finish the beer.

Some fun things. A guy in Wichita told me they had a saying about staying there, “Come for vacation, leave with probation.” My kinda town.

I met Dairy Carrie today. And found out that not only does she have a Dairy Farm, she sells semen! [For Dairy cattle, it’s a bit deal, apparently.] She is also a pip!

Okay. That beer done me in. Night folks.

*This is not cheating. I did my 30 days without Coca-Cola. I survived.

In Wichita

Just checked into my hotel.

Had an exciting day of traveling, three two-hour trips: bus to Logan; Jet to O’Hare; smaller jet to Wichita.

On my shuttle/cab trip to the Hotel, we crossed a picket line! First time I did that. I ain’t no scab, though.

Done in. Going to go to sleep soon.

30 Days

30 Days

This was my last Coke for 30 Days

This was my last Coke for 30 Days

I made it 30 Days without Coca Cola. Hooray!

And the thing is: it was difficult only sometimes. Like the time Edmund and I went to see a movie with our friend Gennyfer and I hadn’t remembered about the Coke thing. But I had Pink Lemonade instead. And the time forgetful Edmund ordered me a Coke at the restaurant. The rest of the month went about the same as I described in this post: My Little “Coke” Experiment.

Here is a recap of my goals:

So from now until end-of-day November 4th I will quit drinking Coca-Cola.

Here is a list of my goals:

  • No Coke for 30 days
    Additionally:

  • No substitute soda
  • Try to make own tea as much as possible
  • Drink water (ugh)

If I fall off the wagon, I have to start the 30 days over again. This is an important rule. Because one of the reasons why I think this will work is because I am not telling myself I can NEVER have a Coke again. I don’t think I could make it if I did. Instead, I am going to give it up for 30 days with the hopes of only having it for special occasions. I was drinking a lot less of it, but then things went all crazy with school and with my Dad and I kinda didn’t want to quit. I couldn’t bring myself too. Guess I’m ready to break the chain. For 30 days.

Fortunately I didn’t fall off the wagon. Because, you know what that means? I can drink Coke again! Yay!

However, my plan is to keep up the non-Coca Cola thing at home AND at work. I will keep drinking Coke only for special. Like, for instance, this week I’m traveling to Kansas. If I go to a restaurant that is serving Coke I might partake.

The thing is, I did notice something. I’m not sure if I’m feeling any better or not. But my cankles have receded over the last month. I don’t really talk about my cankles. I mean, if you had cankles would you talk about them? Probably not.

And it’s nice not to “have to” have Coke. I mean, a couple of times I drank WATER. And I LIKED it!

I’m pretty sure this is the longest time I’ve gone without any kind of soda since childhood. I bet this will make me a better person.

Doing my hair

Doing my hair

Doing my hair

If I wasn’t so damn cheap I wouldn’t be putting myself through this.

Making my hair pink again. Right now I’m in the intermission. I finished peroxiding my roots. (Picture below). Drying my hair now. Soon I will put the pink on. And my hair will be pink. And that will be good.

Look Ma, no roots!

Look Ma, no roots!

Did laundry today. With Mom’s help, she came by the laundromat and helped me fold. Made it less of a chore. That was nice. Tomorrow going to finish up packing so I’m ready to go on Monday.

Eddie is getting ready to go to his parents house in Pennsylvania while I’m in Kansas.* It will be weird to not be with him during the election. [Note: He wasn’t going with me to Kansas anyway.] Pretty sure the cats will be okay without us. Mom will be coming by to check on them.

Don’t have much else to say. Except for this:

*Special Note for Ne’erdowellers:

Nerves

Got a case of the nerves. I used to not get so nervous until right before I went on. But it’s a full week before my talk at SmallTown2012 and I am nervous!

Did I say I was nervous?

I’m going to go calm down.
