Lounging with @PatsyTerrell

Patsy Lounges with LannaLee and gets a couch!Because of the holiday, this week’s Lounge is out early: and it’s a beaut! An hour-long conversation with Patsy Terrell. Our conversation runs the gamut, from Southern Women, public relations, nutburgers, male vs. female styles of communication, to being happy.

Here is the magic in the episode: after I asked her the 10 questions we got off on a tangent. And we kept going. Because when you are talking about choosing to be happy YET dealing with grief (as I am now) there is a bit to talk about. The last half hour we have a mostly cheerful discussion of dealing with a parent’s death; me with my father, Patsy with her mother.

So. Go on over to listen to the episode. It’s a great one.

I had a great day yesterday. An excellent day. Fantastical, even. I presented on the Local success panel at the inaugural Agents of Change Digital Conference.

I lounged with Chris Brogan and Amy Porterfield. I made my pals Trish and Erica laugh by exclaiming “It sounds like it’s CLOBBERING TIME.” I was told I was awesome.

When I was getting ready for bed, I realized that I was grateful and happy to be alive. It’s been a long time. And if you’ve been following along with the blag and my life, you’ll know why.If you haven’t, keep reading, it will become clear.

It was a great day. I needed that.

The only fly in the ointment: Edmund is still in Pennsylvania, so he wasn’t here to reap the benefits.

Today I lounged with Elijah R. Young. Then I went to a party, came home to record a video, went out to dinner and then went to ANOTHER party.

Now I am putting the last few tweaks together for my indeigogo campaign. I’m raising money for Lounging with LannaLee, so I can travel to the SmallTown2012 conference: #140conf SmallTown: Exploring the State of NOW in Small Towns. I was accepted to speak, so this is a big deal for me. The money raised will go for traveling fees and promo materials – If I go over my goal, extra money will to toward future trips/materials for Lounging with LannaLee.

What am I speaking about? Here is my submission, it sums it up pretty well.

Another Glorious Day in Suck City: How Facebook and blogging help my family cope with my father’s terminal illness
What I would like to talk about *
Last February we found out my father was very ill, he had stage 4 lung cancer, and was given two months to live. We were able to use Facebook and my blogging to keep people in the loop with what was going on, and conversely our family and friends were able to communicate their feelings to us directly. [blog category here: https://lannaleemaheux.com/category/cancertime/]

My talk will be about how that felt, to have the instant connection with family. How our family and friends were able to share our grief as my Dad became sicker and sicker. How we were able to count our blessings and find laughter in the midst of tragedy.

Why I want to speak at #140conf *
As a speaker, it would be a great opportunity regardless. Because of it’s thrust toward the 140 character and “now” conversation, it’s a good chance for me to talk about the real good Facebook and social media can do. People joke about how “no one cares what you have for lunch” when talking about Twitter and Facebook, and maybe that’s true, but I’ve met some great friends from Twitter and reconnected with many old friends on Facebook. They are both an integral part of my life, and both were critical in helping me and my family make it through the worst time of our lives. Rather than feeling disconnected, we felt connected. I think that needs to be part of the conversation.

Please, I hope you can give. Or Share. Or both. Thanks.

More pictures from the speaker’s dinner the other night. Good times.:

I tell all potential guests on Lounging with LannaLee that we need just an hour to record our episode. And that is true. I plan on doing a half hour episode, a few minutes to get set up, a few minutes at the end, I can really get it all done in an hour. But. Part of the beauty of Lounging with ME is that sometimes my guest has some free time, and we get to lounge some more. That’s what happened when I lounged with Broke207, or Alexandra Munier.

I arrived at 12:30. We chatted for about a half hour, and then we started the podcast, the real lounge. And here is another part of the beauty of Lounging with LannaLee. I’m the boss. The show ends when I want it to end. And we were having a great conversation. And I wasn’t done yet. So we kept talking. Because, although I shoot for a half-hour show, the truth is, the show can be as long (or as short) as I want it to be. Sometimes a half hour is enough. Sometimes it isn’t. We still hung out for another hour or so, talking.

If you are not familiar with Allie Munier, this link (that I really really want you to click on and want you to listen to the episode and whatnot) will give you all her pertinent information. She is brilliant and funny and fascinating (like all of my guests). We had a great and spirited discussion about her veganism, being thrifty and dog people. Also: pasties!

So listen now. You won’t regret it.

Oh. And then this happened:

Close Personal Friend of Saul Colt!

And still (this always happens), I thought of more things I wanted to talk about on my way home!

Lounging with LannaLee Update

Lounging with LannaLee Update

Hey, it’s (yet another) Lounging with LannaLee Update. Today I’ve been thinking about Lounging with LannaLee a lot, as I’m getting my presentation ready for the next WordCamp Boston. [Schedule here. Tickets here. Session Description Here. My bio here.] It is a great event, and I suggest that, if you do anything or want to do anything with WordPress, you attend. Great for beginners and advancers. And I’ll be there, which is a total plus!

Lounging with LannaLee LogoAs far as my getting stuff together, I’ve been playing around with new WordPress plugins, deleting old plugins, updating and cleaning my website and such so that it will look good for the publics. Through the course of all this work, I MAY have figured out how to fix my iTunes submission so that my peeps can download new episodes via iTunes. Crossing fingers.

Lounging is going great. I’m planning on doing something big in the fall for it, some sort of event, right now I’m in the beginning planning stages. Want it to be big and fun and maybe a little crazy. We’ll see. [Incidentally, if you are interested in helping me PLAN this, please let me know. I might need a committee or something. And if you are a balloon person, please know you are on notice. Will definitely be a balloon presence there. Thinking sculpted awesome.]

The podcasting every week is going well, been lucky to be able to get a couple of last minute guests a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes I hold people who might be easy to get in the wings while I concentrate on those who might live further away and whatnot. When we came back from our vacation in May, I didn’t have any episodes recorded. I had hoped to connect with a couple of people at the festival we were at, but it never seemed like a good time on their or my end. Fortunately Edmund stepped up and so did my boss Tony (with his daughter Mariah). Edmund and I are going away again this week and fortunately I already have the episode for this week AND next week in the can.

I will also be transcribing all of the episodes, once I get up the gumption to start the process. Frankly, I don’t see it happening until after the presentation in July.

So that’s it. Another Lounging with LannaLee update. You LOVE it, don’t you. Admit it. You LOVE It.

I have got to find a way to get paid to do this. Because I am loving Lounging with LannaLee.

I recorded my 11th guest today – actually I had 2 guests (Erin Dow and Chrystie Corns) – and it was a blast. There is something to this art of conversation. I love the connection with my guests, learning new things about them and even sharing things about myself. The laughter is cleansing.

Earlier this week, I had an epiphany on how I could describe the show. And, for the life of me, I cannot remember what it was. Now, I was in the ladies room when I got said epiphany and did not have a pen or paper to write down what I came up with. I trust it will come back to me if it really is as awesome as I thought it was.

One of the things that becomes clearer and clearer to me every day is that I need not worry about what other people are doing or replicating someone else’s success. Because I can’t. I’m working on instinct and intuition with the understanding that if I keep doing what I’m doing, the path I need to follow will make itself known. If I “build it, they will come.

So I’m building it.

And Lounging with LannaLee is going to grow. I have a new theme song by rinski from fiverr. I will be playing around with holding a monthly live streaming events using Google+. I will find ways to engage more with my audience. People are listening, but I’d like to have more listeners. How do I reach people who would be interested in this podcast? I’m trying to figure that out.

Along with the Google+ idea, I am thinking of doing a Kickstarter. In a couple of months, I will have a better idea of what kind of Kickstarter event I will host. I have lots of ideas, but none really feels like the “right” one yet. Soon I will be starting to transcribe the episodes. I have an idea of what I want to do with it, but not sure if it’s the right one. My intuition is telling me to transcribe them, and so I will.

After we recorded guest Rachel Flehinger’s episode she asked me what I was learning from our guests. That is what I’m thinking about. What am I getting out of it? So far I would say I’m getting great conversation, personal connection and inspiration for me to be a better person.

Have you listened to any (all) of the Lounging with LannaLee episodes? Did you learn anything? What did you get out of it? Let me know, how can I make the show better?

Busy day

Worked, rescued my Mom from being locked outside of her house, went to a friend’s house for dinner then went out to a movie with the same friend. All while being awesome.

A very busy day.

I mean, I also ate 2 pieces of fruit. Crazy.

So here are some videos.

George talking about the next episode of Lounging with LannaLee:

I’m Sexy and I know it LIVE! Awesome.

Some fun with a song and Star Trek:

That’s all I got, people. Peace out.
