Back in 1992, over 20 years ago, I was in a staged reading of the one-act play The Police Know Everything, written by Sanford “Sandy” Phippen. I think of it every now and again, doing this staged reading at the Penobscot Theatre in Bangor, Maine. I remember I got some awesomely funny lines. And I had to do this ridiculous Maine accent. The text made it easier. I suspect I needed all the help I could get with that.

The other day, my pal Margaret mentioned her husband brought home the book Standing Just Outside the Door: And Two Other Plays. She remembered she was in a staged reading of one of Sandy’s plays, and lo and behold, there was a picture of her in the book! [All of this transpired on Facebook, mind you]. I responded, I think I was in a staged reading of something Sandy Phippen’s. Margaret said, “Yes you were – and you’re in the picture too!”

So I had to buy it.

Last night as I was showing Edmund my picture in the book, he teased me about my purchase. After the fifth or sixth jibe, I asked him, “If you heard your picture was in a book, wouldn’t YOU buy it?” He allowed he would. [And I WIN!]

In case you want to see my picture in the book all up close and personal-like, here is where you can buy it:

I figure, the dude is a Mainer, he could probably use the money. So buy it new. Better yet, order it from Longfellow Books and help more Mainers out.
