I didn’t know about twerking. I didn’t know it was a thing. Now I do.

That’s a lie. I Twerked once in the mid-1990’s. ONCE. Well, maybe twice. A week. Sometimes three times.

Here is the thing: I know (after the fact) that her performance was offensive. It looked like she was having fun. And It looked like she was on SOMETHING. But it sucked. It was not interesting. There was no thing, no story. Just a bunch of half-assed dancing (literally and figuratively). And the crotch grabbing; Miley Cyrus grabbed her crotch like someone told her it would be cool to do so.

And about the offensiveness, read this, NinjaKate deconstructs it for you, much better than I would. And there was slut-shaming too, which you can read about in NinjaKate’s piece [No need to read TWO extra articles.] The thing is, I don’t think Miley was trying to be offensive, she was just co-opting some black culture to be cool. With a huge fail. And without much thought. And lots of tongue.
