Laundry Day

Laundry Day

Lenny Helps Do Laundry

Lenny Helps Do Laundry

Tonight when I get out of work I will be meeting with my dear hubby Eddie at the Laundromat. To help him with the laundry.

We were going to do laundry on Saturday, but there was this blizzard and record-setting snowfall and we just stayed at home instead.

Of course, I just got a message from Ed about Laundry, maybe he will start it without me and be done before I get there.

Not holding my breath on that one.

You see, we haven’t done laundry for over 2 weeks, and I am currently wearing my last pair of clean non-jeans. Yesterday I wore my clown pants. We are overdue for some clean stuff!

Needless to say, our dream house has a washer and dryer.

Some Days

Some days I know exactly what I want to say. Some days I forget to blag until the last minute.

Today I don’t know what to say. But I didn’t wait until the last minute. Instead I stared at a blank page for a few hours.*

Now it’s the last minute.

Got to pull something out of my hat.

*Okay, I didn’t JUST stare at a blank page. I visted Facebook, checked out Twitter, turned on my TV (watched Queen of the Damned out of the corner of my eye), and surfed the interwebs.

I KNOW!

Here is a video about how Jonathan Mann writes a song a a day – a good thing to keep in mind for any creative endeavor:

Here are his most popular songs of the day:

No Deodorant Zone

I haven’t worn deodorant since 2011. Or was it 2010. It was whenever my school-work took over so much that I stopped doing things like wearing my contacts or cleaning my house. [Who am I kidding, I’ve NEVER been good at cleaning my house.]

I didn’t stop wearing deodorant on purpose, mind you. I would dutifully apply it every morning, along with my face lotion and hair gel. Except one day my deodorant stick ran out, and I didn’t buy a new one. Every time I got out of the shower I thought, “Oh yeah, I really should buy some deodorant,” but then I was dressed and my day started, and I never remembered to put it on a list or whatever. I kept forgetting to buy deodorant.

And a funny thing happened. I noticed no difference.

Granted, this might be because of genetics. Maybe I am supremely blessed to not be too stinky. Also, I bathe regularly, almost every day. {I might skip a weekend day, now and again.} So if I smell a little bit, I am not bothered. At least it’s not like I’m an older, female version of Pigpen all up in here.

It makes me wonder. Do we really need deodorant? I think we could stand to be a bit more understanding of other people’s body odor. I notice that I only smell badly/sweaty near the end of a busy day or on a day I haven’t bathed yet. Who benefits the most from our deodorant wearing anyway? The general public (because we don’t stink anymore)? Or the manufacturers (because of the monies earned)?

Since that day I ran out deodorant a couple of years ago, I have not purchased any deodorant. And I have no plans to purchase deodorant in the future.

Experiment time: I challenge you to try a two-week moratorium on your deodorant usage. Two weeks is long enough to have the last vestiges of your deodorant to work itself out of your system. How do you smell? Good, bad, indifferent?

Note: if you do not bathe regularly, this might not be the test for you 😉

Snow Wrap Up

Snow Wrap Up

Here is a pictorial of some of the snow action we had around here.

Saturday Snow Hermit

Saturday is a day for sleeping in and NOT digging your car out of 2 feet of snow.

It is also a day of forgetting to post a blag. Or a day of remembering right before you go to sleep and not making the effort actually posting one.

Sunday is a day for backdating a blag post so it appears I wrote it on Saturday. And, as you will see, it’s a day of showing lots of snow pictures.

Popcorn for Dinner

Edmund made it home from work safely. We’ve been playing Dominion and watching Star Trek. We ate popcorn for dinner.

A nice night during a blizzard.

Now for more Dominion.

I predict we will sleep in tomorrow.

Hope this finds you and your family safe and warm.

The Snow, She’s a Comin’

The Snow, She’s a Comin’

Have you heard? The Northeast is due to get a whopper of a snow storm tomorrow into Saturday.

Joe Cupo Makes his predictions on WCSH6

Joe Cupo Makes his predictions on WCSH6. The reasonable prediction is 24″. Pictured is the unreasonable prediction, 32″.

The local news has been talking about it for days. I heard some reports calling for 4 inches of snow and others calling for 6 feet! Snow taller than me!

Of course, the closer the storm comes, the better the predictions. Right now we are hearing, for the Portland area, we could get between 18 – 24 inches. Since we can get a foot in a normal storm, it shouldn’t be too bad.

Part of me is thrilled with the thought of getting more snow. Lots of snow. Some reports are saying 40-44 inches – close to 4 feet of snow! Adventurous-Lanna says “YAY! That sounds cool!” Practical-Lanna says, “oh no, that would not be good.” Not-wanting-to-touch-a-shovel-Lanna says, “let’s try the 4 inches, why don’t we?”

Where Edmund and I live we don’t need to shovel. Our (blind) landlord gets the stairs (front and rear outdoor fire escape). Our cars are parked in a parking lot shared by the Westbrook housing association, if we move the cars, the spaces are magically plowed out for us. We are very blessed. However, if we get slammed with a lot of snow, we might need to shovel our cars out or something. Smacks of effort.

There have times where we get huge snowfall predictions and the storm never shows up. I’ll admit it, sometimes I get disappointed when this happens. It seems clear that this time we will be getting snow, at the least, my hopes will not be dashed.

Let me go on record that my hopes for this storm is that everyone makes it though without too much trouble.

Let it snow, but don’t be a bother about it.

The Show

Suzanne Haring and me

Suzanne Haring and me at the Pajama Jam on Wednesday night

One of the best things about my trip to St. Louis was that I got to talk to a BUNCH of people for my podcast. First I did a Special Report at Wednesday night’s Pajama Jam (take a listen for some crazy fun). Next I lounged with six fellow balloon twisters. The first one, with Tawney Bubbles airs tomorrow. And she is delightful. Check it out on Lounging with LannaLee. [Or check my Twitter feed, I’ll be posting about it.]

Here is what I say about the episodes:

I am excited to present the first part of a six-part series featuring those special people who make art and entertainment out of folding air into latex balloons. Our conversations centered on making a living doing art, how they started in the biz and their creative processes. Laypeople and twisters alike will enjoy these fantastic conversations.

I have some more fun ideas and people lined up for the next few months on the show. I hope you enjoy it.

Con Crud

Bags are packed

Finally back from Twist & Shout and conscious! I got home at around 1pm yesterday and by 2 pm I was sound asleep. I woke up long enough to eat Chinese food with Edmund, and then I slept some more.

It so happened that I woke up at 6 am (an hour before I was supposed to wake up) and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Now I’m feeling sick, I think it’s the con crud – a reminder of just how much fun I had (not much sleep, talking all the time.) Totally worth it.

Me and Annie Banannie

Me and Annie Banannie at the banquet on Saturday.

I had a blast.

These balloon nuts are my people, after all.

So I am energized and inspired and exhausted and sick. And happy.

Reality is sliding in, even tho I’d prefer it to stay at arm’s length for a bit longer. Edmund’s Dad is in his final weeks, and at any moment we might need to take a trip to Pennsylvania. We are planning on going in a couple of weeks, but you know how these things go. I just hope I can be the support and comfort to Edmund that he was to me during my Dad’s illness and death.

For now I’m planning on trying the happy thing. We’ll see how that goes.

I really should have asked for more pictures with people. Next time.

Homeward Bound

Sitting in the St. Louis airport, waiting for my return flight. I am exhausted and energized at the same time. Ready to go home, but sad to leave my new and long-time friends behind.

Posting now because I suspect I will not feel much like doing so later this afternoon. I’m working on less than an hour sleep, after all. And it will be the first time seeing my husband since last Monday. I anticipate I’ll be a little busy. Say no more!

No Balloon Dinner

Twist and Shout is over and I’m at the final no latex dinner, where we we each have to pay a fine of 25 cents every time we say the word balloon.

I already owe 50 cents. I wonder if I owe a dollar with this blog post.

Back to Maine tomorrow. So glad to be going home.

Well, Crap

This one is late. Sorry, people.

Back-dated cheat post.

The Pool

image

Late with my post today because I was in the pool. The indoor-outdoor pool. I swam underneath the barrier and floated outside in the warm water. It’s so cold outside my glasses were fogging up. It was awesome.

Now it’s time for bed. I hope I can make it to sleep before 4 am!
