Sew, History

Sew, History

Needle MishapI learned how to use a sewing machine in the 1990’s, primarily so I could make my own clown costumes. I’ve never been a very accomplished sewer. I am aware of things like “finished seams” and the like, but frankly, that smacks of effort.

There were a few years (from 2001 until 2012) I didn’t use my machine. I carried it with me from apartment to apartment, allowing it to collect dust in the corner.

Last January I fired up the old machine back up again and made couches (for Lounging with LannaLee). Lots and lots of couches.

When I was a kid I used to hand sew things. What, I don’t know. Be because of this penchant for sewage, I would drop needles on the floor and the carpet. One morning, while I was getting ready for school I stepped on a needle and it went straight through my sneaker and into my foot. My Mom couldn’t get it out. She had to call my Dad, who was at work. He sped home, grabbed a pair of pliers, and pulled it out. He went back to work and I went to school, no worse for my ordeal.
