The Best News of All

On Thursday, June 16th – the day after my birthday – my father, Walter Marshall Maheux had open heart surgery to repair a leaky valve. They did not put in a pig valve (much to the dismay of his co-workers, who were waiting for Dad to spontaneously start oinking or something.) Instead, he got a 25 gauge mechanical valve, which has a much longer shelf time.

I am happy to report that he is home and already raising cain!

Before After

Thank you for your prayers and well wishes! After spending the greater part of 48 hours in a hospital intensive care waiting room, I am overwhelmed with gratitude on how lucky I am. How lucky my family is. We are blessed.

Funny things that happened last week:

My father asked my brother to adjust his bed. Okay, he was egging Bill on to lift the bed up real high, tip it, everything that they should not be doing! (This was before the operation, of course!)

They gave Dad an anti-anxiety pill before the operation. Bill’s friend (our cousin) Gene came in to visit,

Mom said about Dad: “He’s a little loopy!”

Dad said “Spooky? I’m not spooky?” He lifted up the sheet on the bed and fanned himself with it.

I said to Dad, “Loopy, Mom said Loopy.”

Dad replied, “Well, that’s right.”

Bill made Dad an airplane:

Here is a very short video of Dad flying the plane. Enjoy.

Saturday, two days after the operation, Dad said that he “decided to be macho and I stopped taking those pain pills. Then I decided that I could be macho and pain free!”

Bill is on left, being a brat. Mom, controlling the remote (check out the larger picture to see more.)

So that’s it! Have a great week!
