Billy Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

A few weeks ago a I was fortunate enough to chat with poet Billy Tuggle.

Here is what I said about the episode:

In a swanky hotel, Billy and Lanna talk about slam poetry, being true to yourself, the fun of competition, and how to make the world a better place. Lanna struggles to make her point. Billy talks about his start in performance poetry via Hip Hop and Graffiti, Slam Bingo Topics, and why he usually doesn’t go political in his poetry. Billy gives a call to action! And he answers 10 questions.

The week after this ran I went away to West Virgina and didn’t blag all weekend. I was intending on sending you all over then to listen to the show. Better late than never, eh?

And guess what? If you’re too lazy to click the link, you can listen to it here. Look up by Billy’s shining face, a button of awesome!

Lounging with LannaLee Update

Lounging with LannaLee Update

Hey, it’s (yet another) Lounging with LannaLee Update. Today I’ve been thinking about Lounging with LannaLee a lot, as I’m getting my presentation ready for the next WordCamp Boston. [Schedule here. Tickets here. Session Description Here. My bio here.] It is a great event, and I suggest that, if you do anything or want to do anything with WordPress, you attend. Great for beginners and advancers. And I’ll be there, which is a total plus!

Lounging with LannaLee LogoAs far as my getting stuff together, I’ve been playing around with new WordPress plugins, deleting old plugins, updating and cleaning my website and such so that it will look good for the publics. Through the course of all this work, I MAY have figured out how to fix my iTunes submission so that my peeps can download new episodes via iTunes. Crossing fingers.

Lounging is going great. I’m planning on doing something big in the fall for it, some sort of event, right now I’m in the beginning planning stages. Want it to be big and fun and maybe a little crazy. We’ll see. [Incidentally, if you are interested in helping me PLAN this, please let me know. I might need a committee or something. And if you are a balloon person, please know you are on notice. Will definitely be a balloon presence there. Thinking sculpted awesome.]

The podcasting every week is going well, been lucky to be able to get a couple of last minute guests a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes I hold people who might be easy to get in the wings while I concentrate on those who might live further away and whatnot. When we came back from our vacation in May, I didn’t have any episodes recorded. I had hoped to connect with a couple of people at the festival we were at, but it never seemed like a good time on their or my end. Fortunately Edmund stepped up and so did my boss Tony (with his daughter Mariah). Edmund and I are going away again this week and fortunately I already have the episode for this week AND next week in the can.

I will also be transcribing all of the episodes, once I get up the gumption to start the process. Frankly, I don’t see it happening until after the presentation in July.

So that’s it. Another Lounging with LannaLee update. You LOVE it, don’t you. Admit it. You LOVE It.

I love it when a plan comes together!

I love it when a plan comes together!

Ready to podTonight I spent a fantastic couple of hours with a dear friend recording the next two episodes of Lounging with LannaLee. Without exception, this has been my favorite part of doing this crazy project: an excuse to connect with old and new friends with a purpose to entertain and have fun.

And I wondered, have you (my dear blag readers) been listening to the Lounging with LannaLee podcasts? If so, I have some questions:

  • What has been your favorite part/episode?
  • What has worked for you?
  • What could be fixed?

If not, why haven’t you listened yet?

I am getting serious about finding ways to build my podcast audience. So if you have any insight, please bring it. I’m working on my plan, and can use all the help I can get!

Because I wanted to make sure you guys where in the loop, here is what I posted on Lounging with LannaLee today:

Comedian George Hamm is well known to Maine audiences as a frequent visitor to Portland’s Comedy Connection. A local comic headliner, Hamm has opened for the bands Cheap Trick, Tower of Power and blues legend Leon Redbone and for comedians Jay Mohr, Robert Schimmel, Bob Marley, Kevin Nealon, Anthony Clark and Harland Williams.

And the best part is, we had such a great time, we did two shows at once, so he’ll be back next week!

Tune back in on Thursday for Part 1 with George Hamm! Or subscribe on iTunes to have it magically download into your iTunes account!

Lounging with LannaLee

Lounging with LannaLee

Lounging with LannaLeeLast night was extremely productive.

After I posted my blag post here, I put out a call to my “tweeps” [Twitter friends] asking if anyone had time to help me brainstorm a name for my next project. I knew kind of what I wanted, but nothing I had come up with seemed quite right. I needed some help.

Within just a few moments, I had 5 people jump in, @DJNoRequest@GriffinClubMerv@acrimoniousmofo@rurugby & @MarieMonDieu.

I told them “I will be doing one-on-one interviews with persons I find interesting. using as url.” I was leaning toward “The LannaLee Project” or “The LannaLee Experience,” but neither seemed to quite fit. Here is a testament to how brainstorming can work. I knew kind of what I wanted to say, but not clearly. I needed help to find something, and critical to finding the right something happened during the brainstorming process.

Within an hour we had a name.

Here are the first few suggestions that were made:

  • @GriffinClubMerv: Me & Lanna Lee
  • @DJNoRequest: LannaLeening
  • @MarieMonDieu: Lanna Lee Sees
  • @DJNoRequest: LannaLeering
  • @GriffinClubMerv: Its Getting Late with Lanna Lee
  • @DJNoRequest: Lanna Leeping to Conclusions
  • @acrimoniousmofo: how about: I’m Lanna Lee, who the heck are you? Heck was my third word choice; don’t know how broad an audience you’re seeking.
  • @rurugby: Lanna vision.. Or the Lanna Lee old time variety hour ,
  • @MarieMonDieu: Lanna Lee’s THINK TANK? Lanna Lee stirs it up? Lanna Lee Sees into your SOUL? Lanna Lee Loves you?
  • @GriffinClubMerv: Latte with Lanna Lee

While these suggestions were percolating I was responding and making my own suggestions (The LannaLee Experience/The LannaLee Project). I wanted something fun, and it needed to include LannaLee in it. I realized, although I said I would be doing interviews, what I really will be doing is conversations, or at least directed conversations. And not only will I be having these chats with interesting people, those people will also be fascinating. So I made a couple more suggestions:

  • Me: Confab with Lanna Lee (but cooler)
  • Me: Convo with Lanna Lee (but cooler)

And then @GriffinClubMerv came back with: Lounging with LannaLee. Perfect. I had my name, and better understanding on how I need to talk about what Lounging with Lanna Lee is, namely:

A weekly audio podcast where I (LannaLee) have a face-to-face, half-hour conversation with an interesting and fascinating person.

It gets better.

I updated the website with information about the podcast, and sent out a tweet asking for feedback, noting that my placeholder logo sucked. This morning Greg Daly (aka @DJNoRequest) started sending me logo samples. And we coordinated (yet again) on the new logo!

This was the result:
Lounging with LannaLee

Needless to say, I love it.

And tonight I tore that logo apart to make this logo (so any imperfections with this one are totally my fault.) Note, Lounging with Lanna Launches in March 2012!

Lots more to do, but I’m well on my way. Next steps include: figuring out more logistics, fleshing out the website, and soon I will start inviting people to lounge with me.

If I asked you to Lounge with LannaLee, would you?

Bureau Of Awesome

Bureau Of Awesome

BofA #04: Feta Dip of AwesomeFor the past couple of months Edmund and I have been doing a podcast together on the Bureau of Awesome website. Here is the most recent episode, which we recorded last night: #04: Feta Dip of Awesome: Holy crap we forgot to press record edition.

Yes, we forgot to press record, and had a great conversation going for about a half hour (which is the normal length of one of our podcasts) before we noticed it. Wait a sec, that’s not exactly true. I forgot to press record. It was ME. Sigh.

You might know that I also have another podcast with Alexis Lyon called the Lex and Lanna Show. Due to our schedules, we have not been able to meet regularly meet. As you know, I’ve been going to school. Funny thing: so has Lex. Now that I am done with school my schedule has freed up so I can be more flexible and meet when she can meet. We’re still enjoying it so we will keep on keeping on.

I love doing podcasts. I use a H2 Zoom audio recorder, which means I can record just about anywhere. In the coming year I forsee much more podcasting. I will continue with the Bureau of Awesome and the Lex and Lanna Show and I have some other ideas kicking around that seem like they’d be fun. The only requirement is that I amuse myself. And since I am easily amused, it’s a no brainer!

Do you listen to podcasts? Do you make podcasts? Tell me about it.
