Chris Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch! [Episode launches on Thursday, September 27, 2012 on lannalee.com.]

I had a great day yesterday. An excellent day. Fantastical, even. I presented on the Local success panel at the inaugural Agents of Change Digital Conference.

I lounged with Chris Brogan and Amy Porterfield. I made my pals Trish and Erica laugh by exclaiming “It sounds like it’s CLOBBERING TIME.” I was told I was awesome.

When I was getting ready for bed, I realized that I was grateful and happy to be alive. It’s been a long time. And if you’ve been following along with the blag and my life, you’ll know why.If you haven’t, keep reading, it will become clear.

It was a great day. I needed that.

The only fly in the ointment: Edmund is still in Pennsylvania, so he wasn’t here to reap the benefits.

Elijah lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Elijah lounged with LannaLee and got a couch! [Episode launches on Thursday, October 18, 2012 on lannalee.com.]

Today I lounged with Elijah R. Young. Then I went to a party, came home to record a video, went out to dinner and then went to ANOTHER party.

Now I am putting the last few tweaks together for my indeigogo campaign. I’m raising money for Lounging with LannaLee, so I can travel to the SmallTown2012 conference: #140conf SmallTown: Exploring the State of NOW in Small Towns. I was accepted to speak, so this is a big deal for me. The money raised will go for traveling fees and promo materials – If I go over my goal, extra money will to toward future trips/materials for Lounging with LannaLee.

What am I speaking about? Here is my submission, it sums it up pretty well.

Another Glorious Day in Suck City: How Facebook and blogging help my family cope with my father’s terminal illness
What I would like to talk about *
Last February we found out my father was very ill, he had stage 4 lung cancer, and was given two months to live. We were able to use Facebook and my blogging to keep people in the loop with what was going on, and conversely our family and friends were able to communicate their feelings to us directly. [blog category here: https://lannaleemaheux.com/category/cancertime/]

My talk will be about how that felt, to have the instant connection with family. How our family and friends were able to share our grief as my Dad became sicker and sicker. How we were able to count our blessings and find laughter in the midst of tragedy.

Why I want to speak at #140conf *
As a speaker, it would be a great opportunity regardless. Because of it’s thrust toward the 140 character and “now” conversation, it’s a good chance for me to talk about the real good Facebook and social media can do. People joke about how “no one cares what you have for lunch” when talking about Twitter and Facebook, and maybe that’s true, but I’ve met some great friends from Twitter and reconnected with many old friends on Facebook. They are both an integral part of my life, and both were critical in helping me and my family make it through the worst time of our lives. Rather than feeling disconnected, we felt connected. I think that needs to be part of the conversation.

Please, I hope you can give. Or Share. Or both. Thanks.

More pictures from the speaker’s dinner the other night. Good times.:

Agents of Change Conference

Agents of Change Conference

Welcome to my blag The Musings of Lanna Lee Maheux.

Are you visiting this page for the first time? From Agents of Change Conference, perhaps? Make yourself at home. I’ve been blagging every day since last November, so there’s a lot of stuff here.

I’ll be talking about Lounging with LannaLee and it’s success. Excited! And terrified! Just a bit!

Getting Ready for the Show

Tomorrow I’m speaking at the Agents of Change Digital Conference. And it will be awesome.

Excuse me while I work on my speech.

Up to my knees in Cat Litter

Busy night. Lounging, cleaning the cat box, cleaning the bathroom, coloring my hair and getting Lounging with LannaLee ready to publish tomorrow. Still not done.

Till tomorrow, party people.

Perkalicious!

Perkalicious!

Working on my first ever indiegogo campaign!

I’ve been working on this for a few days and I’m almost ready to send it out! I still have some tweaks to do. And I need to do (yet ANOTHER) video.

So. You’re kind of a fan of me and whatnot (since you are on my page and all) Can you take a few minutes to check out the write-up below and give me some feedback? Thanks for your time!

Send LannaLee on the Road!

Hi. I’m Lanna Lee Maheux and I’m the host of the digital salon/podcast Lounging with LannaLee. I’m an ex-clown, speaker, podcaster, actor, geek, silly person, femme fatale, singer, lover, twit, and recovering Stand-Up Comic who lives in Westbrook, Maine.

The Lounging with LannaLee digital salon features adventures in conversation, an in-person, heart-to-heart, unedited talk between me and another person. My goal is to inspire, delight and amuse the audicence while promoting the art of conversation. One way to do that is to take Lounging with LannaLee on the road, out of it’s comfort zone; I have been asked to speak at a conference in Kansas. This is a great opporunity for me to talk with new guests and interest new listeners, but in order to do that I need your help.

I need to raise $3000 to cover the cost of train/air travel, hotel and other amenities or I won’t be able to attend this conference. I am turning to you, my friends, fans and family, to ask for contributions. In exchange, I’m offering art, poetry, cushy plushies, and otherwise fantastic perks. Your contribution will help me get to Kansas, and further, it will help Lounging with LannaLee power up to the next level. Thanks!

Support the Show and Get Fabulous Prizes!

Your money will help me get my butt to Kansas, have a place to stay, and eat while I’m there. But I want to take it up a notch! Why not take a train, I thought! Let’s get crazy, this is an epic trip. I’ve never been to the Midwest, and I want to do it right!

The Money will go to:

  • $1,000-$1,500 for a Round-Trip Train trip to Hutchinson, Kansas (Deluxe with a Room and everything)
  • $800+ for 6+ nights hotel and food

Leftover money will go to

  • indegogo fees
  • Postage & Materials for the perks
  • promotional materials for Lounging with LannaLee like
    • Stickers
    • Pens

If we go over budget the rest of the money will be used for

  • Bringing a travel buddy!
  • Future Lounging with LannaLee trips

Because indiegogo has flexible funding, I keep all funds raised for this campaign. That means if I fall short of my goal I can still get the funds I’ve earned.

But enough about that! Let’s hear what you get!

I’ve takens some time to think of some attactive and fun perks to go along with the suggested donation levels. If you want to mix and match something, let me know! I can be very accomodating when suitably bribed!

The perks include:

  • Exclusive videos and podcasts
  • Original poetry
  • Handmade Original Monster Art
  • Handmade Original Monster Plush Creature
  • Handmade Limted Edition Couch
  • Balloon Twisting for your Holiday Party
  • Lounging with LannaLee
  • Help producing your own podcast
  • Your own LannaLee Digital Salon with a catered meal

The Impact

Lounging with LannaLee is a labor of love for me. I sit down with fascinating people and talk to them about their lives and the cool things they do. I am inspired by their passion and creativity. Your support will help me take Lounging with LannaLee to the next level.

In this digital age we sometimes forget to have in person and face-to-face conversations. It’s easier to Tweet something or chat on Facebook.

Lounging with LannaLee promotes in-person conversations by doing them on a public scale.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you are unable to give, you can be a big help by sharing this campaign with your friends and relatives.

In fact, I ask that you send this along to your friends and family regardless!

And one last request: Use the Indiegogo share tools to share on Twitter, Facebook, Google+!

Tell everyone how awesome I am and that they should give me some monies!

The @AgentConference – Let me Save you Some MONEY!

Hello Party People! Did you know I’ll be speaking at the Agents of Change Conference this Friday, September 15, 2012? I will!

Here is the best part: I can save you some money on your tickets. That’s right! ME. Saving you money!

One ticket includes snacks, lunch and great programming in an excellent space, with networking opportunities galore. Don’t worry, if you can’t get there physically, you can still get a digital pass. The best thing, the digital pass is good for a whole year! So you can take your time and watch each session – you won’t have to make any hard decisions!

My personal favorite is the bundled ticket. Show up to network with all of us, and then go home and catch up on the sessions you missed. Win Win!

Scheming

I’m scheming for Lounging with LannaLee so I am punking out on the blag tonight.

Working on the Media/Press Kit & an indiegogo campaign! Squeeeee! Looking for sponsors for Lounging with LannaLee plus funding to go to a conference in Kansas! I’m speaking at the #140conf State of Now SmallTown 2012 conference in November and will need the funds to go. It’s a great opportunity for Lounging with LannaLee and me to talk with many people I’d normally not have access to. Looking forward to it.

I hope to write it better for my indiegogo campaign. Look for it this week! I will have links everywhere.

Late. Better than Never.

Late. Better than Never.

Watched some Doctor Who and a lot of Leverage today. I’m in love with Leverage. Will be likely buying season 5 so I can watch it on my Kindle Fire.

I also did some dishes. Like a BOSS! They aren’t All done tho.

I guess I should go to bed or something like that.

Hey! Here’s some kitty pictures. You’re welcome.

Friday Fun from the Lounge with @amanda_pants

Amanda Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Amanda Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

I’m working while waiting to hear how Edmund’s Dad is doing in his surgery So far it’s been a series of delays. If you want to keep abreast, check my Twitter or Facebook feed.

So I need something fun. And what’s more fun than sharing a Lounging with LannaLee episode with you?!

Last week I talked with Amanda O’Brien about her work, social media, dogs, and whatnot. When I sit down to talk with someone, I always ask them if there is anything they don’t want to talk about. And Amanda had a secret that she hadn’t shared with the general/online public: she’s pregnant! I sensed her hesitation, so I didn’t ask her about it when we spoke, we had plenty of other things to talk about. Near the end of the episode, however, she mentions it, thereby letting the proverbial cat out of the bag. Fortunately, she was almost ready to come clean and let her adoring internet fans know.

Make your Friday a little more awesome, go on over to Lounging with LannaLee and listen to the episode.

Do eeet!

For Henry

For Henry

Me, Henry and Edmund - Wedding Day - July 3, 2004

Me, Henry and Edmund – Wedding Day – July 3, 2004 [Click to embiggen]

I’ve had one of those days. Left the house at 7:30 a.m. and got home at 11:20 p.m. I worked, had two interesting and exciting doctor’s appointments (that I will talk about later), went out for dinner and an improv show with my Mom.

While I was at my second doctor’s appointment, I looked at my Facebook app on my phone. Edmund posted on his blog that his Dad, Henry, will have his brain surgery tomorrow.

Henry, Chris, Me and Edmund - Thanksgiving 2003

Henry, Chris, Me and Edmund – Thanksgiving 2003

Henry has Glioblastoma multiforme. Brain Cancer. This is a recurrence, he had his first bout in 2008. We are lucky they can operate.

The thing is, I am not in the thick of it. Henry is in Philadelphia. Edmund and his Mom are in a hotel nearby. Ed’s sister and her husband are in Allentown, PA. And I am here in the WB (Westbrook, Maine, for those of you who are not familiar with my vernacular.)

Henry Davis and George Hamm

Henry Davis and George Hamm at the Comedy Connection, Thanksgiving 2011

I am not in the thick of it and I feel disconnected and I am also still dealing with my father’s death this past April.

And I haven’t talked to Edmund since a little after lunchtime and I think he’s sleeping now and I don’t want to wake him because the surgery is at 7:45 tomorrow morning and he might need his beauty sleep. I am torn.

My heart is in Philly right now.

I really, truly lucked out when I got my in-laws, Henry and Chris. They both opened their hearts and welcomed me whole-heartedly into their family. Henry is a kind and gentle man, and he loves his family without reservations; he and Chris are as proud of ME and MY accomplishments as they are of their own children’s achievements.

Like my parents did, Chris and Henry have a loving partnership that is beautiful to see. When Eddie and I got married, we only hoped to emulate both sets of parents for our relationship.

Tomorrow morning as I prepare for work, I’ll be thinking of Henry going under the knife, and Eddie and Chris and Melinda and Robert as they wait, and wait, and wait.

Canned Blag Posts are fun for everyone

Lounging with LannaLee LogoIt’s Monday night, Labor Day, as I write this. I realized I needed a couple days off from the Blag, so I’m getting posts ready ahead of time. Yesterday was easy, I talked about the latest Lounging with LannaLee.

I didn’t have any other ideas, so I’m telling you what I’m doing. You can’t stop me! [Well, you can stop reading, but I hope you don’t.]

It is my hope that will free up some time for me to finally finish the media/press kit I’m making for Lounging with LannaLee. Taking it to the next level, and whatnot.

Part of my brain is with Edmund and his parents and sister in Pennsylvania.

The other part of my brain is scheming how to get more listeners for Lounging with LannaLee (This might be a coping mechanism, I realize.)

The thing is YOU can help with getting Lounging with LannaLee more listeners! Suggestions are below. Listen yourself and TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

Steve lounged with LannaLee and got a couch

It’s a great one for the lounge and I wanted to make sure you’ve listened to this episode. And don’t let the title mislead you, we talk about things other than the environment. The best thing: it’s not a how-to!

Steve is kind of a rock star academic. Maybe not quite Buckaroo Banzai, but close. He’s a drummer, a biologist and he has traveled all over doing his thang. A professor for the last 30 years, Steve’s perspective on new new generation of kids coming through the university system is heartening. Click here to listen to it.

Here is my blurb about the episode:

Steve and Lanna have a lively discussion about his work as a conservation biologist, Tolkein, and kids these days. Ever wondered what a landscape biologist does? Find out what makes the drums speak as Steve spins a story of ecology and explains how his students show engagement in the natural world through storytelling. And he answers 10 questions.

Listen. You know you wanna!

Shay with Couch

Shay lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Something you might not know. The first Lounging with LannaLee episode I recorded was Shay Stewart-Bouley. It was the second one that I published, I can’t remember why, maybe it was because of FoodComa.tv, but I went with Alex Steed’s episode first. I recorded both of them a day a part, so it really didn’t make a difference.

Here is what I say about the episode:

LannaLee and Shay talk about Shay’s work with Joyful Biddeford, non-profits, writing, spirituality, mommy bloggers and how much information is too much to share. Shay calls Dooce “The Godmother of Mommy Bloggers.” And she answers 10 questions.

It was a great conversation. I hope you listen to it.

Post: Part 2

Post: Part 2

Second post I wrote tonight.

The first one was okay, thought out, it had a theme, even; but then I lost my steam and took some benadryl-derivative.

Yes. I’m taking Benadryl again. I don’t want to talk about it.

So I’m falling asleep. And my brain no worky. So this is the post you get.

To make up for it, here is author Neil Gaiman doing some Bat Training:

And a “Video WTF for the week”

You’re Welcome.

Full Stop

I can’t really write what I am thinking right now. I want to write what I’m thinking. Edmund is in Pennsylvania to be with his parents and sister and brother-in-law and I am here in Maine. With my cats.

Ed’s dad, Henry, has a tumor in his brain. Based on the brain cancer he had in 2008, we are pretty sure this is cancer too. I don’t know all the details because they are being filtered through phone and text and I don’t know what’s really going on.

And it sucks. I told Edmund, “but I’m not better yet.” I’m still getting over my own Dad’s death – why put us through the wringer again? I am ill equipped to be the best support I can for Eddie, and that sucks.

Guess I’m going to have to borrow Mom’s proverbial big girl panties. {Not the actual ones.}

Ed is where he needs to be. And I am still here in Maine. If he is still out there in a couple of weeks, I will be joining him for a while. We are hoping that everything goes well.

The good news is that, after being told the tumor was inoperable, the same surgeon who operated on Henry in 2008 said he could operate. And the date keeps getting moved up. Initially they were thinking Monday the 10th, and now the plan is to do the surgery on Wednesday the 5th.

I am physically in Maine, but my heart is in Pennsylvania. I hope I made the right decision.
